Reading Announcements

Where an announcement from your program admin shows up, how to read the full message, and how to control the alerts. A MentorStack help center guide for mentors and mentees.

An announcement is a message that your program admin writes and sends to everyone in the organization at once. It might be a launch date, a deadline, or a schedule change. Most MentorStack notifications come from something that happened, such as a match being accepted. An announcement is the one that a person wrote for you.

Every active member receives it, including mentors, mentees, and other admins. Announcements are available on every plan. If you are an admin and want to send one, see Announcements.

Where it shows up

WhereWhat to know
The notification bellEveryone gets it here
Browser or phone push notificationOnly if you turned push on
A Slack or Teams direct messageOnly if your account is linked and your organization connected one
A Slack channelIf your admin picked a channel, the message is posted there once, and Slack direct messages are skipped

Announcements do not arrive by email.

Read an announcement

  1. Click the bell icon at the top of the page. An unread count shows on it.
  2. Find the announcement. The title is bold with a dot beside it while it is unread.
  3. Read the message under the title. The dropdown shows the first two lines.
  4. To read the whole message, click View all notifications at the bottom of the dropdown. The Notifications page shows the full text.

Clicking an announcement marks it as read. It does not open another page, because an announcement has no link.

Use the Unread tab on the Notifications page to see only what you have not read. Click Mark all as read to clear the dot on everything.

Note

Participants cannot open the admin Announcements page. The bell and the Notifications page are where you read them. The admin page with the history of sent announcements is for admins only.

Control the alerts

Go to Settings → Notifications. In Your Notification Preferences, the Announcements switch covers browser push and your Slack or Teams direct message together. Its description reads: when an admin sends a message to everyone in your program.

Turning it off does not hide the message from the bell. You still see every announcement there, so you do not miss one.

This card only shows once your organization has connected Slack or Teams, which needs the Starter plan or above. Without it, you receive announcements in the bell, and in push if you turned that on. For more about channels and settings, see Notifications.

If you did not get it

  • You joined after it was sent. An announcement goes to the people who were active at the time it was sent.
  • Your account was deactivated or removed at that time.
  • You are looking for an email. Announcements are not sent by email.
  • You expected a push or chat message, and turned the Announcements switch off or never linked your account.
