PAIR Matching Engine
Bad matches waste everyone's time. PAIR uses AI to score compatibility across five dimensions — so every pairing has a meaningful foundation from day one.
How it works
When a participant joins a program, MentorStack builds a profile from their stated skills, career goals, seniority, availability, and optional DEI preferences. PAIR scores every possible mentor-mentee combination and surfaces the top matches — with a plain-language explanation of why each pair ranked well.
Admins review suggested matches and can override or swap any pairing before it goes live. Nothing is automatic — admins stay in control.
5
matching dimensions
Each scored independently, then weighted into a single compatibility score.
Current skills vs. the mentee's development gaps. PAIR surfaces mentors who have specifically what the mentee needs to build.
Career trajectory and stated goals. A mentor two steps ahead on the same path is almost always more useful than a domain expert with no overlap.
Experience gap and preferred mentoring style. Too large a gap and the relationship stalls; too small and there is nothing to transfer.
Scheduling compatibility and time zone overlap. Matches that cannot meet consistently do not produce outcomes.
Optional cross-functional diversity scoring. Admins can weight this dimension or disable it entirely — participation is always opt-in.
Admins can review, swap, or override any AI-suggested match before participants are notified. Suggested alternatives are ranked and shown inline.
The most common reason mentorship programs fail is poor matching. When participants are randomly paired — or paired only by department or seniority — the relationship stalls within the first two sessions because there is no shared context to work from.
PAIR was built to solve this. By scoring across multiple dimensions simultaneously, it surfaces pairs that share enough common ground to have real conversations — while still maintaining the development gap that makes mentoring valuable.
Admins always see the match score and reasoning before anyone is notified, so the process is transparent and controllable — not a black box.
