Configuring Matching

Set your organization's matching mode, weights, capacity, and review AI-suggested matches before they go out.

The Configure Matching page controls how mentees and mentors get paired in your organization. It's separate from the format toggles (1:1, Group, Circle, Reverse) covered in Matching Formats, this page is about the matching mechanism itself.

Matching Mode

Choose one of two modes:

  • Self-Select: mentees choose from recommendations themselves
  • Admin-Guided: admins create matches directly

Switching modes changes what mentees and admins see elsewhere. Self-Select can also unlock the Mentors directory for mentees; Admin-Guided unlocks the Suggested Matches queue described below.

Timeout, Seniority, and Weights

  • Accept Timeout: how many days a pending match stays open (1 to 30) before it's automatically escalated.
  • Seniority Matching: Prefer Senior, Strict (exact level only), or Peer (same-level preferred).
  • Matching Weights: four sliders, Skills, Goals, Seniority, and Availability, that always sum to 100%. A fifth, optional dimension, cross-functional pairing, gives mentors outside the mentee's department a small boost when enabled; it uses department only, never demographic attributes. See DEI Metrics & Tracking for how that data is reported.

Capacity

Set Max Mentors per Mentee (1 to 10) and Default Mentor Capacity (1 to 50), the number of mentees a mentor takes on by default.

Platform-Suggested Matching and Mentor Discovery

Two independent toggles:

  • Platform-suggested matching: when enabled, mentees see AI-recommended mentor suggestions after describing what they're working toward.
  • Mentor discovery: lets mentees browse and request any available mentor themselves, on top of AI recommendations. This only works in Self-Select mode; in Admin-Guided mode the toggle is disabled, since admins assign matches directly.

Program Templates

Rather than configuring everything by hand, Apply a program template lets you start from a ready-made blueprint. Applying one replaces your current matching mode and weights, so review your choice before confirming.

Reviewing Suggested Matches

In Admin-Guided mode, a separate Suggested Matches page lists AI-generated mentor proposals for every unmatched mentee. Review them, adjust anything you don't like, including overriding the suggested mentor from a dropdown, then approve individually, approve a selection, or approve the whole batch at once. Matches you don't approve can simply be rejected instead.
