Loading and Removing Sample Data

Load six sample members with matches, goals, and meetings to explore MentorStack, then remove them. A help center guide for program admins.

Sample data lets you look at a working program before you invite real people. MentorStack adds six made-up members with active matches, goals, and meetings. You can sign in as any of them to see the mentor and mentee views. When you are done, you remove them in two clicks.

Sample data is available to admins on every plan.

Load sample data

The option shows on your dashboard while you are still in setup. That means the welcome screen with your setup checklist, which shows until the checklist is complete or you dismiss it. Your organization must also have no members other than admins.

  1. Go to Dashboard.
  2. Under the setup checklist, find the Explore with sample data card.
  3. Click Load sample data.

The card then shows Sample data loaded and a shared password. All six sample accounts use this password. Click the copy button to copy it. MentorStack also emails the credentials to you, with the sign-in addresses of the sample accounts.

  1. Click Go to dashboard to continue.

The six members are 2 mentors and 4 mentees. Sample data also sets up your matching weights, which marks the "configure matching" setup step as done.

Note

If the card does not show, setup is finished or dismissed, your organization already has members, or sample data is already loaded. Loading is blocked if any non-admin member exists.

Sign in as a sample member

Use the password from the card or the email, and one of the sample email addresses in that email. Sample accounts cannot reset their passwords or receive email. They are for looking around only.

What the banner means

While sample data is loaded, a banner shows at the top of the dashboard: You're exploring with sample data: 6 synthetic members loaded. None of this is real.

Remove sample data

  1. Click Remove sample data in the banner.
  2. Read the confirmation. It says it removes the 6 sample accounts only, and that real members you added are not affected.
  3. Click Remove. Click Cancel to keep the sample data.

Removal deletes the sample members, their goals, and the matches that only contain sample members. Their meetings and messages go with those matches. A match that includes a real person is kept. Removal also resets your matching weights, so the matching step in your setup checklist opens again.

Warning

Removal is permanent. Sample data cannot be restored, but you can load it again if your organization has no other members. If you configured real matching weights after loading sample data, removing it resets them. Check Settings → Program → Matching afterward.

Automatic removal

MentorStack removes sample data that is older than 30 days. This also stops the shared password from working. Automatic removal does not reset your matching weights, so any real configuration you made stays in place.

Before you invite real people

Remove sample data before you do a real launch, so the six sample members do not mix with your program. To bring in real people, see Managing Members.
