Your First-Time Profile Setup
Walk through the MentorStack setup wizard for mentees and mentors: goals, skills, availability, and the finishing touches.
Your profile feeds matching. The more complete it is, the better MentorStack can pair you. The first time you open Profile in the sidebar, a short step-by-step wizard guides you through it. Each step saves as you go, and you can change everything later from the same Profile page.
Note
The wizard appears when your profile has no skills and no growth areas yet. Admins do not have a participant profile, so they do not see it. If you hold both the mentee and mentor roles, you see the mentee wizard.
Mentee setup
The mentee wizard has four steps: Working toward, Growth areas, About you, and Finish up.
- What are you working toward? Pick one of the suggestions: "Step into a more senior role", "Build confidence in specific skills", "Transition into a new discipline", or "Ramp up quickly in my new role". Or choose Write my own... and type one sentence. Click Continue, or Skip for now. You can change this later.
- What do you want to grow in? Pick the skills you want to develop. Select at least 3 growth areas to be eligible for matching. A counter shows how many more you need. To get suggestions, upload a resume PDF or paste an experience summary, then click Suggest from profile. Click Save & continue once you have 3 or more. With fewer than 3, Skip for now appears instead.
- Tell us about yourself. Confirm your Name, then choose your Seniority level (Junior, Mid-Level, Senior, Lead, Director, VP, or C-Level). Add your Department if you like, since it is optional. Set your Timezone and Time format (12-hour or 24-hour). Under Availability, tick the days that work for mentoring sessions. Click Save & continue.
- Finishing touches. All of this is optional. Add a Bio and your LinkedIn link. A Suggest goals button in the Preview your goal ideas panel offers goal ideas to consider. Click Save & finish, or Skip & finish.
Use Back to return to an earlier step.
When you finish, MentorStack shows "Profile setup complete!" and takes you to your dashboard. If your admin lets mentees find their own mentor, it shows "Profile complete. Let's find you a mentor." and takes you to the Matches page instead. See Finding a Mentor for the next step.
Mentor setup
The mentor wizard also has four steps: Motivation, Expertise, Preferences, and Finish up.
-
What do you want to get out of mentoring? Tick any that apply: "Develop my leadership and coaching skills", "Expand my network across teams", "Give back and help others grow", or "Gain fresh perspectives from junior colleagues". You can also type your own with Add your own reason.... Click Continue, or Skip for now.
-
Your expertise. Choose Your seniority level, then pick your skills under Your expertise (min. 3). You can upload a resume PDF or paste an experience summary and click Suggest from profile for skill suggestions. Save & continue stays disabled until you have a seniority level and at least 3 skills. With fewer than 3 skills, Skip for now appears.
-
Preferences & availability. Set these fields:
- I prefer to mentor people at these levels: leave all unchecked if you have no preference.
- Days you're available: tick the days you can take sessions.
- Available for new mentees: when on, you appear in mentor recommendations.
- Max mentees at once: shown when you are available for new mentees, from 1 to 20.
- Your timezone.
Click Save & continue. See Setting Your Mentoring Capacity for how the maximum works.
-
Finishing touches. Add an optional Bio and LinkedIn link, then click Save & finish or Skip & finish.
When you finish, MentorStack shows "Profile setup complete!" and takes you to your dashboard.
Tip
Matching compares your skills, goals, seniority, and availability, so a skipped step lowers the quality of your suggestions. If you skip skills now, return to Profile later to add them. See Understanding Your Match Score for how each part counts.
