Program Templates

Start from a ready-made program structure: apply one to your matching settings, or use one as the starting point for a cohort. A help center guide for program admins.

A program template is a ready-made starting point for a mentoring program. MentorStack provides the templates, and the same list shows for every organization. Each template card shows a name, a format badge, a short description, and up to three suggested goal titles.

You can use a template in two places. In Settings, it sets your matching configuration. When you create a cohort, it pre-fills the cohort name and description.

Templates are not tied to a plan. Any admin can use them.

The card

Each card shows:

  • The template name.
  • A format badge: 1:1, Group, Circle, or Reverse.
  • A description.
  • Suggested goals: the first three goal titles in the template.

The suggested goals are a preview. Applying a template does not create goals for anyone.

Apply a template to your matching settings

  1. Go to Settings → Program → Matching.
  2. If you have not set custom weights and your matching mode is still Self-Select, a Start from a template grid shows at the top. Otherwise, click Apply a program template to open the picker.
  3. Click the card for the template you want.

The template applies as soon as you click the card. There is no confirm step. A message such as Applied "Template name" shows, and the picker closes.

Warning

Applying a template replaces your current matching mode and weights. If you tuned your weights by hand, note them first. The picker states this in its description.

If you want to keep your own settings, click Skip: start from scratch in the grid, or close the picker.

What a template changes

A template can set these values on your organization. A value is only changed if the template defines it:

  • Matching mode.
  • Seniority matching.
  • Matching weights.
  • Maximum mentors per mentee.
  • Default mentor capacity.

If the template's format is Group, Circle, or Reverse, applying it also turns that format on. A 1:1 template turns no format on. Applying a template never turns a format off.

A template changes your organization settings only. It does not change existing matches, members, or goals. After you apply one, you can still adjust every setting in the form below the picker. See Configuring Matching.

Start a cohort from a template

  1. Go to Cohorts and click Create Cohort.
  2. On the first step, Start from a template, click a card. Or click Skip: start from scratch.
  3. Review the Name and Description (optional) that the template filled in. Set the Start Date and End Date.
  4. Click Create.

Choosing a template here fills in the name and description. It does not change your matching settings. MentorStack also records which template the cohort started from, and you cannot change that later. If no templates are available, the step says No templates available and you start from scratch.

For cohort setup, see Cohorts.

Note

The cohort picker and the Settings picker are separate. Only the Settings picker changes how matching works.
