Program Templates
Start from a template, then adjust the setup
Program templates preset how an organization matches people. An admin picks one in Matching settings, and the matching defaults fill in. Every setting can be changed afterward.
What a template sets
Matching mode
Admin-guided, where an admin approves matches, or self-select, where mentees request a mentor.
Seniority rule
Prefer a more senior mentor, require the same level, or match as peers.
Scoring weights
How much skills, goals, seniority and availability count in the match score.
Mentor capacity
The maximum number of mentees per mentor, and the maximum number of mentors per mentee.
Format
Applying a group or reverse template also turns on that format for the organization.
Admin only
Only admins can apply a template. Cohort creation can also start from a template and fills in the cohort name and description.
The five templates
| Template | Format | Matching mode |
|---|---|---|
| New Hire Onboarding | One-to-one | Admin-guided |
| Leadership Development | One-to-one | Admin-guided |
| Cross-Functional Mentoring | One-to-one | Admin-guided |
| Technical Skills Transfer | Group | Self-select |
| Reverse Mentoring | Reverse | Admin-guided |
A template is a starting point for the setup work, so a new program does not begin with a blank configuration. It does not run the program for you.
Common questions
- What are MentorStack program templates?
- Program templates are five starting points for a mentoring program: New Hire Onboarding, Leadership Development, Cross-Functional Mentoring, Technical Skills Transfer and Reverse Mentoring. An admin picks one in Matching settings and the matching defaults fill in, so a new program does not begin with a blank configuration.
- What does a program template set?
- A template sets the matching mode, either admin-guided or self-select, plus the seniority rule, the scoring weights for skills, goals, seniority and availability, and the mentor capacity limits. Applying a group or reverse template also turns on that format for the organization. It does not run the program for you.
- Can I change settings after applying a template?
- Every setting a template fills in can be changed afterward. The template is only a starting point for the setup work. Cohort creation can also start from a template, which fills in the cohort name and description, so each new intake can reuse a setup an admin already trusts.
- Who can apply a program template?
- Only admins can apply a template. Participants cannot change an organization's matching defaults. Admins apply a template from Matching settings and can adjust any value afterward. Of the five templates, four start in admin-guided mode, where an admin approves matches, and Technical Skills Transfer starts in self-select mode.
