Applying to a Mentoring Program
How to apply to a mentoring program through its public application link, what the form asks, and what happens after you submit. A MentorStack help center guide for applicants.
Some organizations run their mentoring program with an open application. They share a link, and you apply without an account. This page is for the person applying. Program admins who set up the form should read Program Applications.
Apply
- Open the application link your organization gave you. It looks like
app.mentorstack.co/apply/followed by the organization's name and the application's name. - Under Your details, choose how you are applying. If the program accepts both roles you see I'm applying as a with Mentor, Mentee, and Both. If it accepts one role, a note tells you which one, for example "This program is currently accepting mentor applications."
- Enter your Name and Email. Both are required.
- Under Program questions, answer the questions. A red asterisk marks the required ones. Question types include short text, longer text, single choice, multiple choice, yes or no, a 1 to 5 rating, and a 0 to 10 scale.
- Complete the bot check if one is shown.
- Click Submit application.
The page shows how many questions there are and a rough time estimate. The estimate is a guide only.
When the form is accepted you see Application received, with the message "Thanks for applying to" followed by the organization's name, and "We'll be in touch once your application has been reviewed."
Note
Yes or no questions start on No. Check the answer before you submit.
After you submit
An admin at the organization reviews your application. The admin can accept it, decline it, or leave it pending.
- Accepted. The admin can send you an invitation email right away, or accept you first and invite you later. The invitation is the step that gives you an account. Applying does not create an account.
- Declined. You get an email with the subject An update on your application to followed by the organization's name. The admin can add a reason, and the reason is included in that email.
MentorStack does not send you a confirmation email when you submit.
Common problems
- "This application link is no longer available." The application is closed, has not been published, or the link is wrong. Ask the organization for a current link.
- "You already have an application under review." You already applied to this application with the same email. You can apply again only after the admin has decided on the first one.
- "This program is not currently accepting that role." Pick a role the program accepts.
- A required question is marked as missing. The message names the question. Answer it and submit again.
- "Too many applications submitted. Please try again later." Wait and try again.
- "Bot verification failed. Please try again." Complete the check again. If the check does not load, turn off your ad blocker or contact support@mentorstack.co (opens in new tab).
Note
The application form is only available to organizations on a Starter plan or above. If an organization is on the Free Pilot, its application link shows the unavailable page.
