Navigating MentorStack

Find your way around MentorStack: the sidebar, the top bar, the Cmd+K search and command palette, and the light and dark theme. A help center guide for everyone.

MentorStack has three parts to find your way around: the sidebar on the left, the top bar, and a search and command palette that opens from the keyboard. What you see depends on your role. A person with more than one role sees the pages for all of them.

The sidebar

On a wide screen, the sidebar is always on the left. It lists the pages you can use. On a narrow screen, click the menu button (Open menu) at the top left to open it.

A few notes on this list:

  • Mentors only shows for mentees when the organization uses Self-Select matching and mentor discovery is on. See Finding a Mentor.
  • Reports and Applications need the Starter plan or above. On the Free Pilot plan they show with a lock and the tooltip Available on Starter plan, and you cannot open them.
  • Applications shows a red count of pending applications when there are some.
  • A thin line splits the list into three groups: everyday pages, program pages for admins, and your profile and settings.
  • Profile in the sidebar is for mentors and mentees. Admins reach Settings from the sidebar and the user menu.

Collapse the sidebar

At the bottom of the sidebar, click Collapse to shrink it to icons. Hover over an icon to see the page name. Click Expand sidebar to bring the names back. Your choice is saved in your browser.

On the Messages page, the sidebar collapses on its own to give the conversation more room. You can still expand it there.

The top bar

The top bar runs across every page. From left to right, it has:

  • Breadcrumbs. They show where you are, such as the page and the record you opened. Click an earlier step to go back.
  • Search. It opens the command palette. See below.
  • The notification bell. It shows your unread count and recent activity. See Notifications.
  • The user menu. Click your avatar to open it.

The user menu

The user menu shows your name and email. Admins also see an Admin badge. It contains:

  • Profile. Mentors and mentees only.
  • Settings.
  • Theme. Opens Light, Dark, and System.
  • Log out.

Search and the command palette

The command palette is the fastest way to jump to a page or find a person or match.

  1. Press Cmd+K on a Mac or Ctrl+K on Windows and Linux. You can also click Search in the top bar.
  2. Type in the box, which says Type a command or search...
  3. Use the arrow keys and Enter, or click a result.

Press the same shortcut again to close the palette.

Type at least two characters to search. Results appear under Members and Matches, up to eight of each. A mentor or mentee only finds matches they take part in. Admins can find any match in the organization.

With no search text, the palette lists two groups:

  • Navigation. For mentees: Dashboard, Matches, Goals, Meetings, Messages, Profile, and Settings. For mentors: the same list without Goals. For admins: Dashboard, Members, Matches, Analytics, Applications, Announcements, and Settings. Applications is left out on the Free Pilot plan.
  • Actions. Admins get Invite Member.

Note

Some pages in the sidebar are not in the palette: Mentors, Portfolio, Reports, Cohorts, and Surveys. Use the sidebar for those.

Theme

MentorStack comes in a light and a dark theme.

  1. Click your avatar to open the user menu.
  2. Click Theme.
  3. Choose Light, Dark, or System. System follows your device setting.

MentorStack saves your choice to your account. It applies again when you sign in on another device.

Get help from a page

Many pages have a Help link near the title. It opens the matching help article in a new tab.
